Acacia is an unlimited clone of the NYT Spelling Bee—make as many 4+ letter words as you can from seven letters, always using the center one. It's a zero-dependency, vanilla-JS static site.

Why I Built It

The Spelling Bee is a daily ritual, but "daily" is the catch—one puzzle and you're done. I wanted to play as many as I liked, with the real NYT word lists behind them, so every puzzle plays exactly like the official one.

Real Puzzles

Every "New Puzzle" deals an actual NYT puzzle from the official archive—793 of them, each with its exact accepted answer list (8,333 unique words in total). Word acceptance matches what NYT accepted that day, and every puzzle has at least one pangram.

Features

  • Type on the keyboard or click the hexes; space bar shuffles the outer letters
  • Full scoring with pangram bonuses and NYT rank progression
  • Hints panel with the classic forum grid (starting letter × length) and two-letter list, live-updated to what you haven't found
  • A Letter Boxed solver widget that finds the shortest word chains, using the official NYT dictionary for the day's puzzle
  • Progress saved to localStorage
